Introducing author, Karen-Millie James!

Karen-Millie James debut novel called, THE SHADOWS BEHIND HER SMILE, will be available soon on Amazon! Here is a biography about Karen and a synopsis about the book!

Karen Millie-James was born in north-west London to a father who had escaped Germany with the kindertransport in 1939 and a mother who was a talented window dresser in London’s West End.  Inspired to do well, Karen studied business and languages at the University of Westminster and commenced her career at a small engineering company in the international department.  Realising her full potential was not going to be met there, Karen left and joined the legal department of Levi Strauss, quickly being promoted to European Group Company Secretary, where she remained until the company closed down its European headquarters.  For the following ten years, she worked for a multi-discipline organisation in Central London but it was always Karen’s dream to set up her own consultancy which she did twenty-three years ago.  Now Karen is widely recognised internationally as an expert in the corporate field and she sits on many boards of directors in an advisory capacity.  A couple of years ago she was asked to mentor MBA students at the University of Westminster on a voluntary basis to which she agreed with much pleasure.

Karen never intended to write a book at such a stage in her life but what started as a hobby in her spare time away from the office, working in the evenings until late into the night and at weekends, has now become a new and exciting part of her.   From an early age Karen started to see people in spirit and accepted this as if it were an every day occurrence.  On the way, she discovered so many extraordinary stories that she decided to share these, although at the time was not entirely sure of her audience. However, after six months of writing, she decided to fire her desire of the subject and turn the book into a novel.  Thus she introduced a protagonist involved in the corporate forensic world and who is helped by spirit guides in her investigations with no reward other than to obtain the truth.  The Shadows Behind Her Smile was born and Cydney Granger entered Karen’s life and many of Cydney’s experiences are also her own. Writing this book has become her passion made easier due to her background in business, literature and linguistics and having a vivid imagination.

Karen now lives in the Buckinghamshire countryside with her husband of three years and their three dogs.  She still works in her business but fewer hours whilst the remainder of her time is spent writing, playing tennis, going to the theatre and travelling, and having quality time with her talented twenty-three year old daughter who is a professional singer.

THE SHADOWS BEHIND HER SMILE
(A PSYCHIC THRILLER)

With a successful career in corporate forensics established with her husband, Steve, when he resigned his commission from the army, to the outside world Cydney Granger has it all; an adoring husband, two young children, a beautiful home and everything she could wish for following a difficult childhood.  Then Steve is called for a special mission to the Middle East where he is killed and her world collapses.  However, Cydney has a special gift; she is a medium who not only can contact spirit but also experiences dreams which foretell the future.  She had a premonition of Steve's death only weeks before it happened but was powerless to prevent it and now has to live with the consequences.  Cydney barely copes with her loss which reminds her of her father’s death when she was just a child, with history repeating itself in the cruellest way, leaving her twins fatherless. The arrival of Sean O’Connell, a Sergeant in Captain Granger’s Special Forces team, is her saviour, keeping his promise to his boss that he will look after her should anything happen to him.

Cydney becomes involved in a world of insider dealing and fraud, attempted murder and blackmail whilst mourning the loss of her husband.  She is a strong woman and self-assured, never letting down her guard but underneath she worries about her mother who has dementia and has now been diagnosed with terminal cancer, her sister who never supports her, coping with her work and ensuring her children have a normal upbringing without their father.  She has chosen a difficult path to follow but is accompanied by spirit which is a source of comfort.

Welcome Felicia Johnson!

                      FELICIA JOHNSON

"1 out of every 5 people struggles with mental illness – stop and think and you’ll discover that you probably know someone who is going through that right now.

Yes, mental illness is the dark secret so many live with. Now you can help change this.

While mental health issues are more freely discussed these days, it’s still difficult to approach someone who might have a problem. But ignoring it is not an option.

We can make a difference in showing teens that they are not alone on this journey and there is light at the end of the tunnel.  I want people to see a way out of suffering, rather than suicide.

I seek to use my education and personal experience to help end the stigma that is on mental health.

My goal is to help our youth and their friends and families talk more about depression, suicide, and abuse.

I am an author of the bestselling  novel Her, speaker, child abuse survivor, and mental health advocate with over ten years experience in the mental health field. When I was 15, my best friend, Holly, committed suicide. I found out after her death that she had a Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) stemming from the trauma of childhood abuse and this led to my writing Her.

It is a story of endurance, survival and finding hope from within."

Welcome author Teresa McRae!

Teresa McRae is the talented author of the Historical Fiction novel called Mamie Garrison. It is a tale of slavery, abolition, romance and history, set in the years just prior to the Civil War.  Teresa is also one of three author friends who put together a compilation of short stories with a losely based Halloween theme. This book is called Thrillax and is available now on Amazon for .99 cents. Teresa has always enjoyed writing and is a voracious reader from her early youth. She is inspired by many authors in the historical fiction genre. She is also a lover of Russian literature, particularly Tolstoy and Doestoyefsky. Teresa finds great inspiration for creating characters by looking at the ones these two authors have created. She has written for most of her life in one form or another. She has dabbled in poetry and songwriting, and has more started novels than finished ones. In her free time, she likes reading, history, crossword puzzles and travel. She is interested in genealogy and working on her family tree. She lives in the Midwest United States with her husband, Chris and her dog, Max.

Fantastic Reviews for LOVE IS NEVER PAST TENSE by Janna Yeshanova!

Please check out some of the many 5* reviews for LOVE IS NEVER PAST TENSE by Janna Yeshanova!

"The author gave me a review copy, but my opinion is what it would have been if I had bought this book.
This book, which is based on a true story, doesn't read as an autobiography at all. That basically sums it up I'm very happy to say so.
It tells the story of the author but not by the author and in no way telling. If that makes any sense. Let me explain this a little better. This book reads as if it is pure fiction. A love story about two lives coming together and overcoming difficulties.
It is peppered with facts only one who has been to the USSR can know, but not in a way that distracts from the pleasure of reading the story. They enhance the story, giving it depth and volume. The glossary in the last section of the book wasn't used by me, because the author managed to use the foreign terminology in a way I didn't need to look up the words to know what she meant. The scenes are set and show you life and love in Russia during the communistic regime.
The characters are fully developed and real. Within the first few pages you will root for them and wish them well, while you know there is despair in their future and hope it will not happen, whatever bad luck will no doubt disturb their happiness.
I will not spoil your pleasure of reading this book by revealing too much, but I do want to say this story has a happy end even if it is not fully revealed."

"Love Is Never Past Tense by Janna Yeshanova is a wonderful trip through the eventful life of the author. Her colourful descriptions of 1970s life in Odessa are so vivid I actually remember my own adventures during that period. She really got to grips with the way people talked back then and skilfully blended dialogue as only Russians speak. I was expecting first person here, but Janna used third instead and without losing any emotional impact. I take my hat off to her. Her love for Russia is evident in every word, phrase, sentence and page, imbuing the novel with a richness it so deserves. The sea-saw love story is well handled over a 40 year period without losing any impetus to the lives of Janna and Serge and their feelings. I loved this adventurous romance revolving around a part of history that tore mother Russia apart. Will those events tear Janna and Serge apart or is their love truly never past tense.
A FIVE STAR ROMANCE with its heart in the right place."

"Most romantic novels follow one story line: boy meets girl, boy sweeps girl off her feet, the couple has challenges to their romance; but love wins out and they live happily ever after.
In Love Is Never Past Tense, Janna Yeshanova dares to explore that "happily ever after" part. What happens when two young people meet and marry while they are madly in love, but whose differing life goals tear them apart?
Set in Russia while the Soviet Union fell, the book tells the story of a passion that refuses to go away. It paints its canvas with the rich and sometimes dark colors of the Russian spirit, at the same time giving non-Russian readers a fascinating glimpse into everyday life in a country that seems strange and distant to us.
Like most men, I do not generally care for romance novels. Too often, the genre seems to be filled with too much silliness, sweetness, and sentimentality; or with graphic sex lacking emotional context. This book is completely different. It speaks honestly of real adult emotions in real life.
A good romantic novel should entertain, but the best of them will stir the soul. Love Is Never Past Tense rewards the reader by doing both."

"This book is gripping from the first page. Janna brings to life a torrid love affair that unfolds during the Cold War Era, proving that love in the Soviet Union was anything but cold. There is no mushy romance here, but a genuine struggle to find love in spite of societal pressures and family expectations. Add to this a dangerous scheme to defect when malevolent forces threaten her life, and you have the makings of a genuine thriller.
I love the way Janna writes. From one paragraph to the next, you never know what to expect. This book did not insult my intelligence, like a lot of pop culture novels. It is intellectually engaging, written in a manner that Hemingway would have respected. It not only granted me the opportunity to see the U.S.S.R. from the inside like I had never seen it before, but it also brought back many memories of a time when I feared all Russians and had no understanding of what they were personally living through across the ocean.
I highly recommend this read. Love, suspense, and history at its best!"

Just had to share!

Hi,

Yes it's been ages since I last posted a blog post as I have been busy marketing authors across the world, marketing my books of course and writing another marketing book, which is so very close to be finished and I do have the book cover complete which once again I must thank my brother for.

I also wanted to share with you all that WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME has recieved 257 x 5* reviews across Amazon and below is one of the latest ones, which I am so delighted with.

I hope that you are all well and that you are writing your best seller and if you need any help in martketing or would like some advice, then get in contact.

Watch out for my new book all about book marketing!

"One of the tests for me of a well-written book, especially one based a true story, is the ability of the author to transport you into their reality thus enabling you to experience their journey by evoking emotions and opinions along the way. David achieves this seemingly effortlessly as he tells this story of setting off for a new life in Spain. The plot would be worthy of a television or movie adaptation as its gritty, captivating content combined with the fast paced writing style makes an immediate impression on the reader which does not release its hold throughout."

Reviews for PORTRAIT OF A SECRET AGENT!

Some excellent reviews on Amazon for Tina Tamman's debut book!

4**** The quality of the author's research is impeccable and the results are as close as possible to comprehending who Brian Giffey was. The scrupulous attention to time and place provides a sound base upon which the author is able to bring her protagonist to life. Giffey's own poetry and prose, as well as the photographs provided, make for an enriching experience. The title intimates that the notorious Kim Philby plays a larger role than he actually does, but it is true that Philby provides a key clue in a case of British Intelligence still submerged in a fog of secret documents. Of note is the author's common sense approach in unravelling Giffey's private and public affairs, resulting in a well-paced, informative, and delightful read. I recommend it."

4**** Reviewed on behalf of The Review Board by Harmony Kent.

I received a mobi copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

This book is written well, and it is clear that the author has undertaken meticulous research. The life of Brian Giffey is chronicled in its entirety, including his service in the British forces, his becoming an agent for MI6, his many affairs and eventual falling head over heels in love with a young Estonian girl. Kim Philby used to be a British Secret Service agent, who subsequently defected to Russia, taking a lot of secrets and sensitive information with him. Brian Giffey knew Kim Philby, and was apparently deeply affected by his defection.

The author, in her research, appears to have been faced with missing diaries, papers, and information, but does a sterling job of piecing together this interesting life. The material is presented in a linear, orderly, and easy to follow manner, and plenty of references are given. This biographical account gives the reader a glimpse into old empire, life and service through both World Wars, and on into the Cold War years. The book contains direct excerpts and quotes from both Brian Giffey’s personal documents, including his poetry, and from accounts of those who knew him.
If you are interested in non-fiction biographies, and history, then you are likely to find this an intriguing read. It has a scholarly feel to it, and contains a wealth of information, and would be suitable for use as a research reference in its own right. I award a solid 8 out of 10 TRB stars, which equates to 4 out of 5 stars on other rating scales."

5***** Towards the end of her book, the author states, "History...is all about human beings." I personally cannot think of a better way to truly understand events in a historical context than through the recollections of someone who lived through them. And Brian Giffey, who worked as a covert government agent at a particularly volatile time in history, certainly lived an extraordinary life.

The author does an excellent job of piecing together personal, and sometimes fragmented, information to weave a fascinating narrative full of love, strife, cultural and political observations and above all, human connection. I would recommend this book to those interested in history or the secret service, but would also urge anyone who enjoys a good story from a uniquely human perspective to buy this book. You won't regret it."

Author of Portrait of a Secret Agent!

Biography Of Author Tina Tamman!

I was aged 26 when I arrived in England from Soviet Estonia. Everything was new to me on arrival, from wrapped bread and mail-order catalogues to cheques in the post. I was, however, often asked how I got out of the Soviet Union and sometimes, when I was bored with the question, I said I was a spy. Several years later I found myself working at BBC Monitoring, amused to hear that the Soviets used to call it a spy centre. However, all we did was to listen to foreign radio and TV broadcasts (in my case Estonian Radio in both Estonian and Russian).
Intelligence began to interest me seriously when I was researching the life of an Estonian diplomat for my PhD. It appeared that this diplomat, August Torma, who found himself stranded in London in 1940 once the Soviets had overran his country, had links with intelligence. Research into Torma led me to Brian Giffey whom Torma knew and who was indeed a British intelligence officer. I was pleased to publish the biographies of both of these interesting men.
In the process I have grown to love archival research and shaping what I have learnt into chapters for a book. Not that different from my work at Monitoring where it was similarly important to distinguish between the important and unimportant.

PORTRAIT OF A SECRET AGENT by TINA TAMMAN!

This is a book about belonging, loyalty and identity – a biography of a secret agent called Brian Giffey who wrongly believed that he was Welsh, but his mother was actually Canadian and his father German. Born illegitimate as Otto Chester Kurt Brian Petersen in London in 1887, he was brought up in Germany. On his return to Britain he obtained a degree from Oxford and, with the help of an unscrupulous lawyer, a military career became possible. Brian joined the Worcestershire Regiment in 1911. His intelligence career with MI6 started in 1928; he served in Tallinn, London and Baghdad. In 1944, however, he was mysteriously dismissed from the secret service, but in post-war years he represented Britain in Berlin on the denazification committee and, back in London, worked for the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.

Brian was a specialist in Soviet affairs who knew the notorious Kim Philby. His biography helps us to understand how the Soviets used the information obtained for them by Philby.

The book is also relevant today as Russia flexes its muscles. What happened in Crimea in 2014 is reminiscent of the annexation of Estonia in 1939-40 experienced first-hand by Brian.

The book is also an unusual and moving love story. How was it possible for this middle-aged womaniser to fall in love with an inexperienced and immature Estonian girl to whom he remained faithful for the rest of his life?
