To Catch the Setting Sun by Richard I Levine

 To Catch the Setting Sun

by Richard I Levine

There’s a killer loose on the island of Oahu. His targets? Young, native-Hawaiian women. But it also appears that he’s targeting and taunting Honolulu police detective Henry Benjamin who knew each victim and whose wife, Maya, had been the first name on that list.

In addition to battling his personal demons, this New York transplant’s aggressive style didn’t sit well with his laid-back colleagues who viewed Henry’s uncharacteristic lack of progress in the investigation as evidence that fueled ongoing rumors that he could be the killer.

Was he, or could it have been someone within the municipal hierarchy with a vendetta? As it was, after thirteen years on the job Henry had been disillusioned with paradise. His career choice long killed any fantasy of living in a grass hut on a wind-swept beach, being serenaded by the lazy sounds of the ocean and a slack key guitar. Instead, it had opened his eyes to a Hawaii that tourists will never see.

Poetry of Aloha: A ke ahi A ke aloha by Stephen Carbon

Poetry of Aloha: A ke ahi A ke aloha

by Stephen Carbon

A ke Ahi A ke Aloha

The fire of love burns eternal where the Albatross soar beneath the full moon.

Igniting hearts where Pele's flames of spirit consume.

Hibiscus sway in rhythmic trades through coconut palms in slack key tune.

Crescent waves shimmer of emerald and rolling blue.

Immerse your soul in my island verse and song.

In nature's touch of lush nobility  passions aspire to belong.

We dance with the immortal force of creation upon sacred waters.

A ritual of the hearts beat and fever.

Her fire of love unites the Makai of destiny and rhythm of natural order.

Like the familiar touch of memory and intuitive understanding.

We share the blessing of life's celestial artistry and intimate wandering.

Where the spirit of Aloha envelopes our garden of fruit ever expanding.

Moose Ridge: Ending to Beginning by Craig Hastings

Moose Ridge: Ending to Beginning by Craig Hastings

All beginnings lead to endings, but some endings bring beginnings.

Attending Harvard was the first positive thing in Jazmine's life in a long time. While a member of an affluent New York family, her mother died when she was five and her father went to jail when she was twelve. Jazmine lost everything leaving her a ward of the state and becoming a foster child.

Meeting Michael, a medical student was the second positive experience. Now she's looking forward to the perfect life she dreamed about. Leaving Boston and New York behind, the only cities she's ever known, she's on her way to join Michael and start their new life together in Wyoming where he will complete his neurosurgical residency. She's had a lot of hard blows, but now all her hard work and dedication are going to pay off. The day has arrived for her and Michael to start the beginning of their future life together. Jazmine just knows, for once, everything is going to be exactly how she always dreamed it could be.

Then she’s handed the letter.

The Presence by Philip Meese

 The Presence

by Philip Meese

THIS IS HER HOUSE, AND SHE DOESN’T TAKE KINDLY TO GUESTS!

Being a disbeliever in the paranormal, Kate Thorpe has no qualms about accepting the job of live-in manager at Blackmoor Hall; the supposedly-haunted 14th-century mansion in the heart of Lancashire. After moving her family into the house, Kate starts to think of ways she can use the legend of the ghost of Jane Weston, who was burned as a witch in Elizabethan times, to turn Blackmoor Hall into a profitable business.

Shortly after moving in, each member of the family have experiences they cannot explain; doors slamming, electrical appliances tampered with, and Kate’s baby daughter pointing and laughing at seemingly empty spaces. The constant feeling that someone is watching them, particularly in Blackmoor Hall’s seemingly endless corridors, is undeniable; but that’s just the start, and their experiences soon become more terrifying. When a celebrity medium makes contact with the ghost during the filming of a televised show, she reveals that Jane Weston has not only attempted to murder one of her children, but intends to try again, and kill Kate as well.

As events unfold, it becomes clear that an evil ghost is not the only set of eyes watching their every movement within the house – and leads those that are still alive to question whose intentions are more sinister.

The Presence is a British ghost story, set in Lancashire, England, but it is far from your typical haunted-house novel. In addition to an evil spirit with a vendetta against the young family (and seemingly unlimited supernatural powers), another presence inside the house is watching their every move.
