Full to the Brim with Fizz, Ginger, and Fierce Determination: A Modern Guide to Independent Filmmaking by Tori Butler-Hart and Matthew Butler-Hart

Full to the Brim with Fizz, Ginger, and Fierce Determination:

A Modern Guide to Independent Filmmaking

by Tori Butler-Hart and Matthew Butler-Hart

Want to learn valuable secrets about making your own low-budget films? This book is at once Tori and Matthew Butler-Hart’s personal account of their ten-year adventure running their own film production company and a manual loaded with tips on how to survive—and thrive—in the modern independent movie business.

Since founding Fizz and Ginger Films in 2009, the Butler-Harts have spent the past decade writing, producing, directing, line producing, and promoting both their own and other people’s films. In Full to the Brim with Fizz, Ginger and Fierce Determination, the duo looks back and takes stock of what they've learned in their sometimes turbulent creative journey.

Rather than a step-by-step guide of how-tos, Tori and Matthew offer real-life lessons in making independent feature films, including useful tips and pitfalls to avoid. From the very first stages of writing a screenplay to securing financing, producing and shooting the movie, post-production and distribution—each area is explored and explained through anecdotes and interviews with other professionals involved in the industry, including Sir Ian McKellen, Stephen Fry, and legendary producer Margaret Matheson.

Full to the Brim with Fizz, Ginger and Fierce Determination is a must-read for young actors, writers, directors, producers, or all of the above, hoping to tell their own stories through the magical art of moving pictures.

Let's Meet Author Jack Wallen

Let's Meet Author Jack Wallen

Jack Wallen is what happens when a Gen Xer mind-melds with present-day snark. Jack is a seeker of truth and a writer of words with a quantum mechanical pencil and a disjointed beat of sound and soul.

Although he resides in the unlikely city of Louisville, Kentucky, Jack likes to think of himself more as an interplanetary traveler, on the lookout for the Satellite of Love and a perpetual movie sign...or so he tells the reflection in the mirror (some times in 3rd person).

Jack is the author of numerous tales of dark, twisty fiction including the I Zombie series, Defying Gravity, the Reapers and fEaR series (all published by Devil Dog Press), the Suicide series, the Klockwerk Movement, the Fringe Killer series, The Nameless Saga, and much more.

Rescue: 100 Miles by Aline Riva

 Rescue: 100 Miles
by Aline Riva

When a lab was raided and the animals freed, no one expected spiders to matter. But they did, because the spiders were part of a warfare experiment. Once freed, they spread and bred and their bite transformed the living into the living dead, in a matter of months the world was crumbling as society fell apart.

Now the spiders are destroyed, the plague still spreads with the bite of the infected, and the dead outnumber the living. For the fortunate few at Peacehaven settlement, life was good for a few short months, until a raiding party attacked one misty morning.

Now a lone fighter must travel one hundred miles through zombie infested territory on a mission like no other. Porter never expected to be a fighter – but is now a fighter made by circumstance, on a mission save the two people who make this hell on earth bearable – family, Porter's reason for living.

Wearing a dog tag inscribed with the title Commander and heavily armed, Porter is driven by something far more powerful than the hatred felt for those who destroyed the settlement and stole away those who mattered most – despite the odds and the undead and the often hostile living folk met along the way, Porter is driven by love, determined this mission will not fail.

One hundred miles is a long way to go while the dead walk the earth. But danger and distance is nothing at all when the lives of those who matter most are at stake...
Brand new zombie apocalypse fiction for 2021 from the author of Isolation Z, Seasons of Z and Deserted with the Dead. A story of hope and refusal to give up against the odds leading to an unexpected and powerful conclusion.

 Big Girl, Small Town:

Shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award

by Michelle Gallen

SHORTLISTED FOR THE COSTA FIRST NOVEL AWARD

SHORTLISTED FOR THE IRISH BOOK AWARDS NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

SHORTLISTED FOR THE COMEDY WOMEN IN PRINT PRIZE

LONGLISTED FOR THE ONDAATJE PRIZE

'Milkman meets Derry Girls. A cracking read' Sinead Moriarty

'A thrillingly fresh, provocative and touching voice' Marian Keyes

'Bawdy yet beautiful, full of everyday tragedy, absurdity and truth. I grew extraordinarily attached to Majella' Sara Baume

Routine makes Majella's world small but change is about to make it a whole lot bigger.

*Stuff Majella knows*
-God doesn't punish men with baldness for wearing ladies' knickers
-Banana-flavoured condoms taste the same as nutrition shakes
-Not everyone gets a volley of gunshots over their grave as they are being lowered into the ground

*Stuff Majella doesn't know*
-That she is autistic
-Why her ma drinks
-Where her da is

Other people find Majella odd. She keeps herself to herself, she doesn't like gossip and she isn't interested in knowing her neighbours' business. But suddenly everyone in the small town in Northern Ireland where she grew up wants to know all about hers.

Since her da disappeared during the Troubles, Majella has tried to live a quiet life with her alcoholic mother. She works in the local chip shop (Monday-Saturday, Sunday off), wears the same clothes every day (overalls, too small), has the same dinner each night (fish and chips, nuked in the microwave) and binge watches Dallas (the best show ever aired on TV) from the safety of her single bed. She has no friends and no boyfriend and Majella thinks things are better that way.

But Majella's safe and predictable existence is shattered when her grandmother dies and as much as she wants things to go back to normal, Majella comes to realise that maybe there is more to life. And it might just be that from tragedy comes Majella's one chance at escape.

Elanora and the Salt Marsh Mystery by Kathleen Jae

Elanora and the Salt Marsh Mystery
by Kathleen Jae

After a series of terrifying events, Elanora is transported to a strange neighborhood where the only way to get about is by water and the only food to eat is the grasses of the marsh.

Her newfound guardians do their best to help her adapt, but the food is odd and unappetizing, and she feels isolated and alone. The colony of muskrats who live in the marsh refuse to accept the young chipmunk and ignore her each time they gather to eat at night. In her former home, Elanora spent most days exploring, but her guardians insist she sleep like the rest of the colony.

After she learns about an enormous gray creature that swims in the deeper part of the marsh, Elanora sets off one day to find him. When the sea cow tells her about the marsh’s troubles, Elanora begins her investigation into the mysterious lowering of water levels and the suffering of the swimming creatures. Despite relentless attempts of intimidation from some younger members of the colony, Elanora, along with an elder, piece together clues that lead to a terrifying conclusion.

Elanora and the Salt Marsh Mystery sheds light on two important topics: the impact of bullying and the consequences of the destruction of ecosystems. It’s a tale that explores the importance of diversity and celebrates one youngster’s fight to be heard.

by Robin George Andrews

An exhilarating, time-traveling journey to the solar system’s strangest and most awe-inspiring volcanoes.

[Or, When the Night Comes]

by Derek R. King

Tick. Tock.

….Tick….....Tock…..

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of the clocks getting ready to fall back.

The nights stretch longer as the days shrink shorter. Creatures of the night come out to play; to fill autumn’s twilights and winter’s chills.

And at the edge of this mist infused scene, Derek R King stands and drinks in this dream.

Muse by his side (or is she within), her whispered breath caresses his ears, as she drapes him in words:

“Let the poetry begin.”

Your Second Act: Inspiring Stories of Reinvention by Patricia Heaton

 Your Second Act:

Inspiring Stories of Reinvention

by Patricia Heaton

Patricia Heaton is one of TV’s most recognizable and beloved moms.

She’s won two Emmys for her starring role as Debra Barone on the long-running comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, and followed that career-making role with another gem as Frances Heck on the popular sitcom The Middle

Now, she returns to television as the lead in the new series Carol’s Second Act, which follows divorced fifty-year-old Carol Kenney (played by Heaton), who after raising two children and retiring as a teacher decides to finally pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

Patricia Heaton knows what it’s like to stage a second act and navigate pivotal transitions in life. Just like Carol, when Heaton’s children left the nest, she found herself in a new and unfamiliar stage of life, compelling her to evaluate which direction to take next. She discovered she had the time to pursue passions that were previously placed on hold, both personally and professionally.

She made her move and took a step forward in her career and for the first time, Heaton is not only the star of her own show, but also the executive producer. She also now finds her greatest fulfillment in using her influence to support humanitarian efforts as a Celebrity Ambassador for World Vision, the world’s largest non-governmental organization.

She and her husband support their work in poverty relief around the globe, something that was planted in her heart long ago.

Through her own experience, Heaton became curious about other people’s stories of second-act transitions and ways to offer support in the process. In her new book, Your Second Act, she shares wisdom from her own personal journey as well as insight from stories of numerous people across the country. From work to health, to love and more, the results are heartwarming, inspiring, and surprisingly relatable!

Filled with light-hearted anecdotes and pragmatic steps to help you discover your own path, Your Second Act shows us that midlife doesn’t have to be about crisis when you focus on the opportunity.

After all, it’s never too late, or too early to stage your second act!
