A Short Story
by
Ian Rankin

In this short thriller from bestselling author Ian Rankin, murder comes to London’s most exclusive high-rise—and every resident is a suspect.

The Rise is a gleaming residential tower, newly constructed from steel and blackened glass, that stands on some of London’s most prestigious real estate. Looming imposingly over Hyde Park, only multi-millionaires need apply for one of its sumptuous apartments. But when the young night concierge is found murdered in the building’s lobby, the elite residents quickly find their gilded lifestyles under unwelcome police scrutiny.

Investigating officer DS Gish has her work cut out. The only suspects, those who live in the building, aren’t accustomed to police interrogation. But it seems horribly certain that one of them must be the killer. Could it be the Russian oligarch? Or the lonely actress? Maybe it’s the family of the career criminal? Or perhaps it’s the building’s reclusive developer who lives alone in the penthouse?

Obstructed continually by locked doors, governments both foreign and domestic, and an apparent absence of motive, can DS Gish solve this impenetrable mystery and apprehend the murderer—before they slip away forever?

Graft: your guide for how to find success, make money and smash life by Tom Skinner

 Graft:

Your Guide For How To Find Success, Make Money And Smash Life

By

Tom Skinner

GET OUT THERE, GIVE IT 110% AND ABSOLUTELY SMASH IT!

Tom Skinner is a grafter. Born and bred in Romford, he’s spent a lifetime on market stalls and has always had an eye for opportunity. He’s sold everything from laughing monkeys to luxury mattresses! Like a magician, Tom can make something out of nothing, although he’s seen it all disappear just as quickly, too.

Graft is a window into the world of a professional wheeler-dealer who knows exactly what it takes to stay afloat and keep your chin up when the going gets tough.

Inside, Tom shares his story and the hilarious escapades he’s found himself involved in while trying to make a quick buck. He also reveals how you, too, can make your own luck using the simple mantras he abides by and how to bounce back off the ropes when it feels like you’re down and out.

From fuelling yourself with a big breakfast (preferably down Dino’s Cafe) to the importance of making mistakes, Tom offers an entertaining, motivational read for anyone who wants to do bigger and better things … or just wants a good laugh.

This is how to smash life the Skinner way. BOSH!

Loosely Based On A Made-Up Story: A Non-Memoir by James Blunt

Loosely Based On A Made-Up Story:

A Non-Memoir

by James Blunt

This book is inspired by true events but is not a biography.

The truth is My Truth is not The Truth, and that's as honest as I can be. It's partially true, rather than painfully true, and I have possibly been economical with the truth, Your Honour.

Basically, I made this sh*t up . . .

While James Blunt's crimes against music are well-documented, he also has some stories that are not. In Loosely Based On A Made-Up Story, James reveals his most riotous anecdotes to date for your amusement - and his parents' horror - in this highly anticipated non-memoir.

From his questionable Norfolk roots, eccentric family, boarding school antics, misjudged military service, rise to music stardom and tour escapades, James delves into his (surprisingly) fascinating life to date. What do you do when your mother writes irate emails to the future prime minister defending your honour? What does it take to run a male escort agency? And why exactly should you refrain from crowd-surfing? Find out here, folks . . .

Were the stories in this book grossly exaggerated in an attempt to impress? Maybe. But one thing is for certain: you won't want to miss it.

Promises by Eileen Joyce Donovan

 Promises

by

Eileen Joyce Donovan

They were promised a great adventure. That was one word for it.

As Liverpool was being constantly bombed by Nazi war planes, 13-year old Lizzie and her 9-year brother, Colin, were beginning their “great adventure” to Canada for their safety. They had to leave their mum, and everyone they knew behind for the promises of the Canadian Rockies and cowboys and indians, something Colin was especially excited for.

The crossing was quite the adventure as they passed through U-boat infested waters and storms with dangerously high waves. Upon their arrival in Halifax, they quickly learned that had been the easy part, and how easily promises could be broken.

The Corisco Conspiracy by Raphael Sóne

 The Corisco Conspiracy

by

Raphael Sóne

The Corisco Conspiracy is the story of the Gunpowder Plot (the "conspiracy" of the title) as related, in crystal-clear prose, by William Shakespeare. It has long been suspected that the Shakespeares of Stratford-upon-Avon were crypto-Catholics. In this tell-all memoir, William, the first son of John and Mary Shakespeare, not only authenticates that suspicion, but also reveals significant events that happened in the Catholic underground of Elizabethan and Jacobean England. The most noteworthy of those events is the first meeting of the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot. It took place in Corisco, an island in present-day Equatorial Guinea which figures prominently in Shakespeare's narrative.

That was in November 1585 - twenty years before the plotters' historic gunfight with security officers in Staffordshire.Corisco was not Shakespeare's only link to Africa. Some of his fellow "Jesuit messengers" were Afro-Europeans. He himself wrote only one of the plays for which he is famous. The rest were supplied to his acting troupe by a different spy: a Portuguese-African princess, who was instructed to write in them encoded messages for Roman Catholic theatre-goers. The Bard married twice. His second wife, the hitherto unidentified Dark Lady of the Sonnets, was a Muslim from the Kingdom of Malabo. So, he embraced Mohammedanism. His confidants, a London couple of Malian descent, were also Islamic members of the Church of Rome. Many more Catholic rebels were implicated in the Gunpowder Plot than have thus far been listed in history books.

Shakespeare does justice to them all in his account.

The Silent Children (Buried Deep in Shallow Ground Book 1) by Honor Harlow

 The Silent Children

(Buried Deep in Shallow Ground Book 1)

by Honor Harlow

According to the Old Celtic legend, the Banshee comes calling when a family member leaves for the Otherworld. Why is the Banshee lurking outside Arlene’s window at the same time as sickly Liam - one of the children from the Mother and Baby Home - mysteriously stops coming to school?

The Silent Children is a dark and gritty fictional suspense novel based on the horrific true events surrounding mother and baby homes in Ireland, as late as the 1970s, where unwed mothers and their children were segregated in deplorable conditions that caused many deaths, which were discretely covered up.

On 5-year-old Arlene´s first day in primary school, she sees the Home Babies filing in through a different door than the one she and the other children use. They sit on the bad side, the part of the class for the poor children, while she and the Bishop´s niece and the other well-off children sit on the good side. Arlene is instructed by her mother not to go near the Home Babies but to become pals with the Bishop´s niece. She tried but because her impulsive personality is considered “bold” by the nun, so she spends most of the time castigated on the bad side. There Arlene notices two Home Babies, Brigit and Liam, and feels a “grá” towards them.

While on the bad side, she also becomes friends with Úna and Kait, who introduce her to Celtic lore and traditions. Their nannas teach her about The Banshee, who keens when a loved one leaves for the Otherworld.

When Arlene hears the Banshee at night, lurking just outside her bedroom window, will Arlene be able to figure out who the ghastly apparition is really looking for…?

Peter Vanderbilt had a very special house built to his exact specifications. Unknown to almost everyone, the materials he used were ‘special.’ He searched the world, looking for parts of other haunted houses and places where acts of evil had taken place to build his final retreat. He then incorporated them into the very structure of his mansion. Why would someone intentionally build a haunted house? Was he a madman or the most brilliant mind of his generation?

Shortly after its completion, the owner offers the house to a young couple for their wedding. After the event, sixty-six guests, including the bride and groom, retired to their rooms. Their bodies are discovered the next day, except for the bride and groom. While rushing home to deal with this catastrophe, the homeowner's plane disappears over the Atlantic Ocean. The property is transferred to a Foundation and rented out to various families over the next twenty years; however, every seven years, more people die or go missing.

Two paranormal teams are called in to investigate when the property is inexplicably sold for unpaid taxes. By this time, the total of dead and missing has reached over one hundred.

When the two teams arrive, one is a legitimate paranormal research team from a respected university, and the other is from a hit reality TV show.

They quickly learn that they will have to work together to survive the investigation.
