Pickett’s Ponies by Debbie McMannis

Pickett’s Ponies
by Debbie McMannis

A Middle Grade Novel written by Debbie McMannis

Pickett’s Ponies is a story that grew in my heart and my imagination after a brief encounter in a stockyard with a young white pony, that I hope, someone purchased for their children to play with and ride. I like to think that’s what happened but I did not stay until the end of the auction that day.

As I drove away from the stockyards, I found myself thinking about ponies and the difficult lives they can live, if they aren’t owned by people who love them.

Pickett’s Ponies opens on Jester’s life as a child’s pony but he is quickly sold to Lester T. Pickett to be used for pony rides.

Life on a pony ring is never dull and Jester faces many unexpected twists and challenges in his new life as a ring pony.

As the story unfolds, Jester meets many ponies whose lives intertwine, however briefly, with his own.
