Space Unknown: The distance between what is there and what we touch and know with our mind

How does a person create an understanding of the world if he was born blind? I really do not know. However, in a real way we all live with forms of "blindness" all the time. First, we only understand shades of the past which are transmitted by older people, relics, or historical documents. Then we make conjectures about our unfolding futures. Touch, balance, and taste are our most personal revelations about reality. Smell, sound, and sight extend our personal understanding beyond direct personal contact. In our temporal world all other experience is transferred between people through a " chain of custody" communicated by others. Thus man has created a limited "cave of exposure." The rest of what is there is unknown. In this way we recognize our relationship to the person who is visually blind. The images, writing and Braille in this presentation remind us that we are all
participants in a world where we must recognize our blindness and treat each our with a kindness that extends beyond what we know.
